Dr. Heidi Markowitz

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Veterinary School in Glasgow, Scotland

Bio

Dr. Markowitz grew up in Southern California and graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1998 with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science/Prevet. Dr. Markowitz worked as a veterinary technician/nurse for many years, including three years at a prominent emergency/critical care veterinary hospital in southern California, before starting veterinary school in Glasgow, Scotland in 2004.  Her first veterinary job was as a receptionist at a small animal practice in Morro Bay, California in 1993.

While attending veterinary school she was a member of Born Free and has an avid interest in protecting wildlife, with Asian elephants being a favorite. She was also a mentor for incoming freshman students and worked as a residence advisor while living in veterinary campus student housing for four years. Her first job after receiving her veterinary degree was at a first opinion practice in Ashton-Under-Lyne, just east of Manchester, England. A busy practice nestled near the Pennines in the Cheshire region, providing plenty of opportunities to enjoy hill walking. She is an avid Disney fan, her second passion after veterinary dentistry, and can often be found wearing Minnie’s ears.

Dr. Markowitz is looked after by her two cats, JoJo and Lilo. Both are rescues that traveled with her from England.
